Margaret Bearden

I have enjoyed creating art my whole life, and I was encouraged by some wonderful art teachers. I have always loved working with children, so I pursued my dream of becoming an art educator by going to The University of West Georgia. I graduated with my BFA in 2006 and got my first teaching position at Euharlee Elementary School in Bartow County where I worked for ten years. I decided to stop working full-time in order to spend more time with my daughter, Eleanor, who was born in March of 2016. I starting teaching classes at the Rockmart Cultural Arts Center in 2016 and continue to teach them on Saturday mornings as well as working at the Summer Youth Art Camp and Teen Camp.

My passion for art is not limited to one medium. I enjoy continually experimenting and trying new things myself and with my students. I love drawing in charcoal and colored pencil, painting, mixed-media, and creating art with found or recycled objects. My favorite pieces include an 8 foot by 12 foot mural of the Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh that my students and I created out of thousands of plastic bottle caps, and a nearly life-sized unicycle I made from clay. I don’t take art or life too seriously, and I want my students to make mistakes, get messy, build confidence, and have lots of fun!
